In its powerful BMW X5 line-up BMW have added a new variant – the Sport X. Let us break it down for you to simplify what’s what and what’s new.


At first glance this seemed like a mathematics equation that got replicated with so many ‘x’s to find! But there seemed to be one ‘unknown’ component and BMW has decided to fill that empty slot. In its powerful BMW X5 line-up BMW have added a new variant – the Sport X. 

Let us break it down for you to simplify what’s what and what’s new.

The maker: BMW

The badge: xDrive 30d or 45i

The variant: SportX

Now, de-mystifying the rest of the specs.


The BMW X5 is their middle range SUV SAV. It has massive road presence and has a M variant available in India to make the beast truly menacing.

This variant focusses on some much needed styling and tech updates.


The BMW X5 SportX variant is available in both petrol and diesel engines.

The Petrol variant – The BMW X5 xDrive45i SportX is powered by a 3 litre, inline 6 cylinder engine that churns out 340 bhp and 450 Nm of torque. This engine makes the BMW X5 touch 100 kmph from 0 in 5.5 seconds.

The Diesel variant – The BMW X5 xDrive30d SportX is also powered by a 3 litre, inline 6 cylinder engine that puts out 265 hp and massive 620 Nm of torque. From standstill this can make the X5 sprint to 100 kmph in 6.5 seconds.

Both engines are powered by BMW TwinPower Turbo.

Both engines are mated to an 8 speed Steptronic auto box. 


Exteriors

The noteworthy changes in the BMW X5 SportX variant are:

- Satin finished aluminium roof rails

Interiors

There’s some more goodies on the inside. The BMW X5 SportX variant brings some much needed features on the inside. Combining driving pleasure with luxury, BMW have managed to equip this variant of the X5 with:

- Panoramic Glass Roof

- Welcome Light Carpet

- Sport Seats

- Ambient lighting (6 colours)

- Four zone automatic climate control

The BMW X5 SportX variant gets some new technology that enhances the driving pleasure, comfort and safety.

- 205W HiFi loudspeaker system

Safety

The BMW X5 SportX variant does not skimp on any of the safety features from the higher variants. It comes with

- Six airbags

- Attentiveness Assistance

- Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Cornering Brake Control (CBC)

- Electric parking brake with auto hold

- Side-impact protection

- electronic vehicle immobilizer and crash sensor

- ISOFIX child seat mounting

The new BMW X5 xDrive30d SportX Plus and BMW X5 xDrive40i SportX Plus are locally produced at BMW Plant Chennai and can now be booked. The ex-showroom prices are:

BMW X5 xDrive30d SportX Plus : ₹ 79,50,000

BMW X5 xDrive40i SportX Plus : ₹ 77,90,000
