Jozef Kaban is a Slovak automobile designer. He was born on January 4th 1973 in Vavrečka, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia). Kaban completed a degree in Industrial Design from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design located in Bratislava, Slovakia in 1991. After which, he went on to graduate with a Master of Arts from the Royal College of Art in London, UK in 1997. Still in that year, Jozef Kaban received the "Giorgio Giugiaro Award for Design Innovation" for his futuristic car concept. During his studies, he took part in a Skoda design competition, in which he came second, and was subsequently offered a job at parent company Volkswagen, initially as a junior assistant of design and later as an exterior designer.

Kaban started his career as a designer at Volkswagen in 1999. He penned the design for the original Bugatti Veyron EB16.4 under the direction of Volkswagen’s former head of design, Hartmut Warkuss, the person who discovered him at Volkswagen AG (where Jozef Kaban worked until 2003) and who also supported him substantially. Kaban also designed the Volkswagen Lupo and Seat Arosa. Kaban moved to Audi in 2003, where he was made of head of exterior design before heading up design operations at Volkswagen’s Czech sister brand, Skoda, in 2008.

Jozef Kaban joined Skoda on 1st February 2008 as Head of Skoda Auto Design Department. Kaban completely revolutionized the manufacturer’s design ethos, earning many plaudits along the way. Kaban’s credits feature the current range of Skoda models, including the Octavia, Fabia, new Kodiaq SUV, and the forthcoming second-generation Yeti.

In early 2017 he left Skoda for BMW to become its head of design replacing Karim Habib. In 2019 he changed position within BMW Group and headed design at its subsidiary Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. After half a year he decided to leave Rolls-Royce and BMW Group returning to VW in January 2020, this time for its main VW brand.
