Jaguar Land Rover India has announced the debut of Range Rover Sport SVR in India, priced at Rs. 2.19cr (ex-showroom India). It is developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations and comes to India as a CBU from Coventry, UK. It is said to be the most powerful, dynamic and fastest Land Rover ever produced.

Speaking on the launch, Rohit Suri, President and Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover India said, “Range Rover SVR redefines & further elevates performance and luxury in an SUV by leveraging the best of bespoke British design and engineering. I am sure that Range Rover Sport SUV enthusiasts and fans will simply love this latest offering combining formidable British engineering craftsmanship with high end and refined luxury.”

The new SVR features a new front bumper with larger air intakes that are designed to improve brake cooling. Also given is a new design for the alloy wheels and features body-coloured detailing at the rear with the SVR badge on the tailgate. On the inside, the SUV features lightweight SVR performance front seats with engraved SVR logo on the headrests. The speakers are upgraded to an 825W, 19-speaker Meridian surround sound system, which has a dual-channel subwoofer.

Cosmetics aside, the Range Rover Sport SVR features a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine which has a capacity to deliver a peak power output of 567hp and a torque of 700Nm. The SVR can sprint from a standstill to 100kph in 4.5 seconds and the top speed stands at 280kph. The power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Land Rover says the Range Rover Sport SVR gets numerous bespoke chassis improvements for more dynamic handling without compromising on the all-terrain capability of the SUV. Furthermore, the Range Rover SVR gets performance brake pads and discs that provide enhanced performance at higher temperatures and are more resistant to fade. The suspension has been tuned to control pitch under acceleration and braking. The carmaker also claims improved turn-in, mid-corner grip and body control.

The SVR will rival other CBU-imported, high-performance SUVs like the BMW X5 M, the Porsche Cayenne and the Audi RS Q8. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
