German luxury car brand BMW and its partners in the Car Connectivity Consortium are all set to develop and distribute the BMW Digital Key. More importantly, this key will be made available for Android smartphones. This update only means that there will be a rise in such compatible smartphones operating on the Android system. Which in turn, shall lead to an increase in the pool of BMW drivers who will shortly be able to use the digital key. BMW Digital Key and its utility for vehicles:  

The German luxury carmaker has officially made available BMW Digital Key for Android smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S21 Series and the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Furthermore, the presence of this digitalized key means the customer can now lock and unlock their BMW vehicle while simply standing with the smartphone near the driver's handle. The engine can also be ignited when the mobile is placed in the wireless charging compartment. The BMW Digital Key is stored within the smartphone's secure element and provides maximum security and ease of use. Regarding configuration, the BMW app can be used as a ruse to configure. More importantly, this digital key is provided as an option for most BMW models. Soon, a tool known as BMW Digital Key Plus based on ultra-wide brand is more likely to be introduced next. 

Development of keyless system motivation behind the creation of BMW Digital Key:  

With the primary objective of creating a system in a keyless automobile, that brand BMW began developing the Digital Key in 2018. In doing so, this luxe car manufacturer has become a pioneer in using a smartphone as a digital key. This latest step undertaken in the digitalized car key development is only possible due to the close collaboration between BMW, Google, and Samsung. The goal behind making such a move is to increase the user convenience and availability of the digital key. In addition, BMW is also the only vehicle manufacturer to offer a system created as per global CCC standard (Car Connectivity Consortium), made available for the ioS and the Android.   

The smartphones that possess the BMW Digital Key: 

Several smartphones have the BMW Digital Key these include: Google Pixel 6/Pixel 6 Pro available in countries such as Canada, U.K., Ireland, Germany, Italy, France, US etc., and Samsung Galaxy S21/S21+/S21 Ultra available in United States, France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom etc.  

With BMW looking to push innovation in an automobile to the next level via the development and distribution of Digital Key, it remains to be seen how successful this initiative was undertaken by the German luxury car brand ultimately turns out to be.
