Lando Norris wins his first Monaco Grand Prix, slashing Oscar Piastri’s lead in the F1 2025 Drivers’ Championship. Leclerc impresses, Verstappen struggles. Full race recap on MWTV.

There are wins that define careers, and then there are wins that define seasons. On May 25, 2025, under the Mediterranean sun and the glamorous skyline of Monte Carlo, Lando Norris etched his name into Formula One history with a clinical, lights-to-flag victory at the Monaco Grand Prix — one of the most coveted races in the sport.

This was not just Norris’ first win at Monaco; it was a statement. A message to Oscar Piastri, to Red Bull, to Ferrari, and to the world: the title fight is far from over.

Monaco: Where Legends Are Made

Every F1 fan knows that winning at Circuit de Monaco is less about pure speed and more about precision, focus, and nerves of steel. That’s exactly what Norris displayed on Sunday. Starting from pole, he led every lap with a calmness that belied the pressure of the title chase.

As tight barriers loomed and strategy battles played out behind him, Norris never blinked. He brought his McLaren home in P1, slicing Piastri’s lead in the Drivers’ Championship to just three points — 161 to 158.

To relive Norris’ journey and McLaren’s resurgence, explore our coverage of McLaren F1 Team.

Piastri Still Leads — But Just Barely

Piastri, the championship leader coming into Monaco, started strong but couldn’t match his teammate’s pace. Despite having track position for parts of the race due to pit stop windows, he had to settle for P3, behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

While it wasn’t the win he hoped for, Piastri’s consistency has been his weapon all season. But the momentum? That now clearly belongs to Norris.

Charles Leclerc: Another Podium at Home

Leclerc gave Ferrari fans something to cheer about by securing P2 at his home race. But the mood was bittersweet. Speaking after the race, he admitted frustration at the lack of overtaking, calling the race “a procession.”

That’s Monaco. Qualifying is half the battle, and Sunday becomes a test of concentration and tyre management.

Still, the result kept Ferrari within striking distance in the Constructors’ Championship, and Leclerc looked far more confident than in previous seasons — a promising sign for the Scuderia.

Max Verstappen: Pushed, But Not Close Enough

Max Verstappen had a quiet but revealing weekend. Starting outside the front row, Verstappen ran into tyre degradation issues mid-race and was never in true contention for the podium. He eventually finished fourth, holding off late pressure from Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton.

The reigning champion voiced his frustrations post-race, especially with Monaco’s two-stop rule doing little to promote overtaking:

“We came here knowing overtaking would be tough, but even with fresh tyres, there’s no way past unless someone crashes. That’s not racing.”

Lewis Hamilton: Still Fighting

Hamilton’s fifth-place finish may not grab headlines, but it was a performance that showed grit. Starting P7, the seven-time world champion battled poor team radio communication throughout the race. At one point, Ferrari’s strategists told him over the radio:

“Push now. This is our race.”

Confused, Hamilton pushed — but the strategy never materialized into anything that could challenge the front-runners.

Yet his drive was clean and professional, and with Monaco being one of the hardest tracks to overtake on, it was a result that helps keep Ferrari in contention.

Midfield Movers and Shockers

Behind the big names, the Monaco GP delivered its usual share of chaos and drama:

1. Pierre Gasly suffered a brake failure following contact with Yuki Tsunoda, causing a scare in the pit lane.

2. Fernando Alonso retired with mechanical issues, continuing a frustrating season for Aston Martin.

3. George Russell, often overlooked this season, received a penalty and finished P11, outside the points.

What’s Next: Spanish GP and New Regulations

As teams head to Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix, technical changes await. The FIA is set to implement new front-wing flexibility regulations — a move that could shuffle the performance order.

McLaren aims to hold its momentum, while Red Bull and Ferrari will be hoping the new rule set plays in their favor. Verstappen, especially, will be desperate to bounce back and remind the paddock of his dominance.

The 2025 Season Heats Up

After seven rounds, it’s clear: 2025 is shaping up to be a classic. Three teams. Five drivers. One title. Monaco may be known for its glitz, but the real gold this season is the on-track action.

The next few races could redefine the pecking order — and based on what we saw in Monte Carlo, the fight is just getting started.

Stay tuned.
